ChatGPT will have to comply with stricter security rules after the European Union included it, this Monday, on a list of digital services subject to greater legal scrutiny. The online platform Reddit and the video game company Roblox will also face stricter EU oversight after exceeding the 45 million monthly users threshold in the bloc.
Henna Virkkunen, head of the bloc's technology area, stated that these companies will be subject to a higher standard of scrutiny and responsibility, in line with the large impact they have on European citizens and society.
The OpenAI chatbot was classified as a very large online search engine, while Reddit and Roblox were classified as very large online platforms, according to a statement from the European Commission, the bloc's executive arm.
The classification stems from the Digital Services Act (DSA), which establishes stricter obligations for digital services with large reach in the European Union.
