The National Statistics Institute (INE) revealed that the unemployment rate in Portugal fell to 5.7% in July. This value represents an improvement compared to previous periods, indicating a downward trend in the Portuguese labour market.
According to INE data, the employed population reached 5,347 thousand people in July. This number represents a growth of 1.6%, corresponding to an additional 82.9 thousand employed people compared to the same period last year.
Despite the decline in the overall unemployment rate, the scenario is different when analysing the data on young people. The unemployment rate among young people stands at 20.1%, a value significantly higher than the national average, revealing the difficulties the labour market continues to face regarding the professional integration of younger people.
