The Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion Clara Marques Mendes represented Prime Minister Luís Montenegro at the opening ceremony of the new social and health complex of CERCI Flor da Vida in Azambuja. The complex, called Quinta das Rosas, represents an investment of over 9 million euros and brings together services for people with disabilities, elderly people, home care and continuing care.
The 5,131 square meter, three-story complex includes a residential home for elderly people, a rehabilitation center, a home care service and a long-term care unit. Around 80 jobs are expected to be created, many of them for qualified professionals. The Azambuja City Hall supported the project with an amount of 350,000 euros.
The Secretary of State emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the social sector and noted that over 440 million euros have been allocated in the last two years for the renewal of the social sphere. She also announced plans to open a new PARES for residential homes and a Social Integration Center by the end of the year.
The history of CERCI Flor da Vida was not easy: in 2020, when the current board took office, the institution was technically insolvent with debts of around 800,000 euros. The organization's president, José Manuel Franco, thanked everyone who participated in the project's implementation, emphasizing that "people create the building."
