"Antígona" closes the stages of the Theatre Festival

Notícias de Setúbal31 August 2026 at 12:16

The performance "Antígona, La Estirpe Maldita", by the Spanish company, brought to the stage of the Fórum Municipal Luísa Todi an updated approach to Sophocles' classic, centered on the confrontation between power and individual conscience. The play focuses on the story of Antigone, who faces the authority of Creon to fulfill what she considers a moral duty, in a narrative about freedom, resistance and the consequences of the exercise of power.

The presentation closed the stage programming of the 28th edition of the Theatre Festival – International Theatre Festival of Setúbal, which took place over ten days and brought together 23 performances by Portuguese and foreign companies. Councilor Bruno Russo was present on the closing night.

In addition to the theatre performances, the festival's program included concerts, cinema, talks and an exhibition, distributed across various cultural spaces in the city. The closing night continued at 11:00 pm, in the courtyard of Escola Secundária Sebastião da Gama, with a musical performance by As Moçoilas, a trio formed by Margarida Guerreiro, Teresa da Silva and Inês Rosa.

The 28th Theatre Festival was organized by Teatro Estúdio Fontenova, in partnership with the Municipality of Setúbal.
