"Existential war". Ukrainian printing presses are also targets of Russia

RTP Notícias31 August 2026 at 11:50

A Russian missile struck during the early hours of this Monday a printing press located in the outskirts of Kiev, destroying the production infrastructure. The attack occurred precisely at the moment when production was intensifying to deliver 1.3 million books, equivalent to 10 percent of the schoolbooks used in Ukraine.

The head of a Ukrainian publishing house called Viktoria Haidai commented on the attack, stating that she believes "this is deliberate on the part of the Russian Federation", suggesting that the target was not chosen at random and that the intention would be to affect education in the country.

The attack on the printing press comes in a broader context of war, being described by the title of the piece as an "existential war", where not only soldiers and military infrastructures are targets, but also essential resources for society and the future of the nation.
