The Picote dam, located in the district of Bragança, was selected to compete in the national semi-finals of the 20th Century Heritage category of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal competition. The project is presented under the motto "Picote – Hidden Modern."
Picote is the only representative from the Northern Region at this stage of the competition. Voting runs until September 5th, during which Portuguese citizens can vote for the project competing in this category dedicated to 20th century heritage.
The Picote dam was built on the Douro River and is one of the elements of Portuguese water infrastructure from the modern period. Its inclusion in the competition highlights the heritage value of this engineering work that is part of the landscape of the northeastern Transmontano region.
