The Civil Police carried out an operation on Monday against a criminal organization operating across state lines, under investigation for involvement with drug and arms trafficking and for possible links to a criminal faction. Player David Corrêa, from Vasco, is one of the targets of the operation.
The warrants were executed at targets in Barra da Tijuca and Vargem Grande, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The action stems from an investigation by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo, which is looking into the group's operations, which have branches in different states.
According to the investigations, possible involvement of other professional athletes and businessmen with the criminal organization is also being examined. In Rio de Janeiro, the operation is coordinated by the 14th Police Station, in Leblon, with support from the Specialized Unit for the Suppression of Arms and Explosives (Desarme) and other units of the General Police Department of the Capital (DGPC).
The operation is part of a joint effort between the Civil Police of the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo to execute judicial measures determined by the courts.
