This Monday, August 31, marks the deadline for taxpayers to pay the outstanding amount of IRS related to 2025 income. Taxpayers who declared higher amounts than they should have paid now have their last opportunity to regularize their situation with the Tax and Customs Authority.
This date serves as a double deadline, as it is also the last day for the Tax Authority to process any refunds that are still pending. This obligation for the tax authority to issue refunds applies only to cases where IRS declarations were submitted within the normal deadline of the settlement campaign.
IRS, an acronym for Personal Income Tax, is a tax that applies to taxpayers' income in Portugal. Every year, during the IRS campaign, taxpayers declare their income and, depending on the case, may owe money to the State or be entitled to a refund.
