BYD is pressuring German brands in the plug-in hybrid market, with low prices and high discounts that allow Chinese manufacturers to gain ground in Europe. The German Environment Minister called for "fair competitive conditions", warning of a possible new tariff war.

Dudenhöffer's study indicates that the Chinese car manufacturer is exerting a double pressure on prices, both through low list prices and greater discounts applied in the market.
