Exiting a franchise should be evaluated before signing

oglobo1 September 2026 at 00:33

The Brazilian franchise market exceeded R$ 300 billion in annual revenue for the first time, reaching R$ 301.7 billion in 2025, representing nominal growth of 10.5% compared to the previous year. The country ended the period with 202,444 operations, 3,297 networks, and approximately 1.762 million direct jobs, according to data from the Brazilian Franchising Association.

The sector's growth has increased entrepreneurs' interest in business models associated with already established brands, but also reinforces the need to analyze what happens not only during opening and operation, but at the moment of renewing, selling, transferring, or closing a unit. During the year, 4% of operations were transferred, while 7.4% were closed.

The Franchise Law establishes that the candidate must receive the Franchise Offering Circular, known as the COF, at least ten days before signing the contract, pre-contract, or paying any fee.
