Father Renato Oliveira presents new book

A Aurora do Lima31 August 2026 at 11:02

On September 17th at 9pm, Father Renato Oliveira will present his new book at the Monastery of São Romão de Neiva. The work, titled "From the Liturgical Movement to the Liturgical Reform of the Second Vatican Council – Historical study, in a pastoral perspective, on the reality of Portugal (1926-1969)", focuses on the evolution of the Liturgical Movement and its relationship with the liturgical reform promoted by the Second Vatican Council.

The session will be chaired by D. José Cordeiro, Archbishop of Braga, who signs the preface of the study. D. João Lavrador, Bishop of Viana do Castelo, will also be present at the event.

The book is based on unpublished sources and documentation from the archive of the National Liturgy Secretariat. Throughout the research, Father Renato Oliveira describes the liturgical renewal in Portugal as a process marked by different rhythms and sensibilities, in which advances, debates, and resistances coexisted.

The study demonstrates that the liturgical reform did not emerge abruptly in the post-conciliar period, but was the result of a long process of theological and pastoral maturation, consolidated over several decades.
