Sánchez links Ceuta crisis to Russia and Israel and confirms National Intelligence Center alert

Euronews Portugal31 August 2026 at 10:57

The president of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, pointed to Russia, Israel and the international far-right as responsible for spreading rumors and disinformation that, according to him, facilitated the massive entry of migrants in Ceuta. Sánchez confirmed the existence of an alert issued by the Centro Nacional de Inteligencia (National Intelligence Center) regarding this situation.

The crisis in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa, involved an unprecedented entry of migrants, apparently triggered by rumors that spread rapidly, including false information about supposed changes in Spanish foreigners' law.

The Spanish prime minister attributed the responsibility for the propagation of this disinformation to state and non-state actors, specifically mentioning Russia, Israel and international far-right groups as involved in this information operation.

This statement comes in a context of diplomatic tensions and raises questions about the veracity of the claims and the capacity for foreign interference in European migratory affairs.
