Mainland Portugal will face a sharp rise in temperatures from Wednesday. According to the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), maximum temperatures may reach values between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. The most affected regions will be the Tagus Valley, Beira Baixa and Alentejo. This heat wave represents a strong return of intense heat to mainland Portugal.
