Property owners in Portugal have until this Monday, August 31, to proceed with the payment of the Municipal Property Tax (IMI). This deadline applies specifically to those who have to pay an IMI amount greater than 500 euros.
The date is relevant for those who did not pay the total amount due to the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) all at once at the time of the first installment. That is, for owners who chose to split the payment into installments and have not yet fully met their tax obligations.
IMI is a municipal tax calculated based on the taxable patrimonial value of properties and is collected annually by the Tax Authority. Owners must ensure compliance with this deadline to avoid any penalties or interest.
