Vitória SC started the handball championship with a defeat against Belenenses. The team coached by Nuno Santos managed to stay balanced for most of the first half, keeping pace with the home side until the score was tied at 11 goals. However, the Lisbon side took advantage of the final minutes before halftime to build a three-goal lead, going into the locker rooms leading 14-11.
In the second half, Belenenses came out stronger and extended the difference to six goals, a margin that proved decisive. Despite the Vitória comeback attempt and the efforts to reduce the deficit, the Conquistadores never managed to get within three goals of their opponents.
Among the highlights of the Vimaranense team was André Alves, one of the signings for the new season, who finished as Vitória SC's top scorer with six goals. The defeat marks the beginning of the Vimaranense side's journey in the top tier of national handball, in a season where the club presents several new additions to the squad and aims to consolidate its growth in the sport.
The Conquistadores' next commitment is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, when they host AD Carvalhos, newly promoted to the top division. The match, corresponding to the second round of the championship, takes place at 3 PM and will mark the team's home debut in the new season.
