The Tourism Confederation of Portugal is experiencing a leadership dispute between two candidates who intend to succeed Francisco Calheiros as head of the Confederation of Tourism Portugal (CTP). Bernardo Trindade and Pedro Costa Ferreira are the two men running for the top position of this tourism sector organization.
Bernardo Trindade is presenting himself with the objective of recovering the hoteliers' side for the confederation, at a time when the representation of this segment is at stake. The candidate seeks to gather support from the main players in the hotel sector to strengthen his position.
On his part, Pedro Costa Ferreira intends to return to the previous model, in which the Portuguese Association of Travel Agencies and Tourism (APAVT) supported a CTP president. This strategy aims to rebuild the alliance between the main associations in the sector.
Both candidates have extensive experience in the tourism sector, but express ambitions to go further in the leadership of the Confederation. The race for the presidency arises at a time of transformation of the tourism sector in Portugal.
