Governor of the Bank of England warns that AI boom could trigger major crisis

SAPO Notícias31 August 2026 at 10:30

The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, warned that the artificial intelligence boom could trigger a major financial crisis. This warning comes in a context of growing concern about the risks associated with the rapid expansion of this technology in the financial sector.

Bailey acknowledges, however, that artificial intelligence also represents an opportunity to strengthen cyberdefense. This more positive perspective contrasts with the warning about the potential dangers that the technology can bring to the stability of the financial system.

The governor of the British central bank expressed these concerns at a time when the adoption of artificial intelligence tools in the financial sector has been accelerating significantly, raising questions about the capacity for regulation and supervision by authorities.
