Works in the Alvor-Bravura Irrigation Perimeter promise to cut water losses by 60%

The Minister of Agriculture and Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, visited on August 28 the modernization works of the Alvor Hydro-Agricultural Development, in the Alvor-Bravura Irrigation Perimeter, in the Algarve. The interventions, funded by 15 million euros through the PRR, will allow reducing water losses in the system by approximately 60%, which equals savings of about 19 million cubic meters per year and approximately two million euros annually. The first phase includes the construction of a new reservoir, pumping station and filtration station, as well as the modernization of two kilometers of the main carrier channel and installation of photovoltaic panels for energy efficiency. The infrastructure, associated with the Bravura Dam built in 1958, serves an irrigation perimeter of about 1800 hectares. The minister also announced a second phase estimated at 40 million euros and defended that investment in irrigation modernization is essential to guarantee intelligent water management in a territory marked by water scarcity.
