China punishes ten people for spreading false information about landslide that killed 919

Chinese authorities punished ten people accused of spreading false information on the internet about the devastating landslide that hit the border with Nepal. Police announced the punishments on Monday, according to the article.

According to a statement from the cybersecurity office of the Ministry of Public Security, users shared messages that suggested the number of dead and missing was much higher than officially recorded.

One of the punished individuals, identified by the surname Qiu, wrote online that "the press reports 1,400 dead, but in reality, previously there were 3,000 missing people." Another user, with the surname Liu, also made similar claims about higher numbers of victims.
