Spain to approve 165 million euro emergency package for Ceuta

Spain is set to approve a 165 million euro emergency package for Ceuta. The main objective is to revitalize the city's economy and strengthen local public services.

Of the total amount, 80 million euros are to be injected by the end of this year, with another 70 million euros to be applied in 2027.

Ceuta is a Spanish city located in North Africa, bordering Morocco. The package is part of an effort by the Spanish government to support this autonomous city.

NEAFC Measures to Combat Unsustainable Russian Mackerel Fishing Enter into Force

Measures adopted by the Northeast Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC) to combat unsustainable Russian mackerel fishing, proposed by the European Union, have entered into force. Russia unilaterally increased its quota to 67,548 tonnes in 2026, and NEAFC responded by establishing a limit of 1,495 tonnes for Russian catches in international waters. The measure prohibits members from facilitating unsustainable fishing, including transshipments and refueling of Russian vessels above the quota. The EU, the United Kingdom, and Iceland are also applying restrictions within their national jurisdictions, denying port entry to vessels with excess Russian catches. The European Commission emphasizes that additional efforts are needed to recover mackerel stocks, calling for the extension of restrictions and a ban on at-sea transshipments.
