Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian said on Monday that the country is not seeking war, but will respond forcefully to American aggressions. The statements came after mutual attacks between the United States and Iran during the night.
The United States attacked the Iranian island of Larak, in the first American military action against Tehran in about a month. American forces carried out a precision strike against two rocket launch platforms loaded with naval mines that Tehran was preparing to launch in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States Central Command stated that the placement of mines by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard represented an imminent threat.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard responded with an attack against two American bases in Jordan, at Al Azraq and King Hussein, using missiles and drones. The Jordanian Army reported that air defense systems intercepted eight missiles in the country's airspace, with no casualties or damage reported.
Pezeshkian noted that instability in the region benefits no country and represents a challenge for all. The Iranian president left for Kyrgyzstan to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
