The Mediterranean Diet will be celebrated in Tavira during the XII Mediterranean Diet Fair, which takes place between September 3 and 6, through special menus in 27 establishments in the municipality. For the first time, cafés and pastry shops are participating in the initiative, joining the participating restaurants, which allows extending the celebration to different times of the day and strengthening the presence of the Mediterranean Diet outside the Fair venue.

Eight cafés and pastry shops are participating, including À da Marta, Arcada Cocktail Club, Belém Brunch Bar, Bruncheria, Pastelaria Tavirense, Café Delmar, Padaria Porta Nova and Padaria Vila Doce, in addition to 19 restaurants such as À do Peixe, Gastro Bar Borda D'Água, Cais Oceânico, Filomena's Rest-Tapas-Bar and others. The menus of these spaces highlight ingredients such as olive oil, tomato, nuts, figs, oranges, cheese, traditional bread and local products.

In the restaurants, the proposals include fish, seafood, octopus, tuna, mackerel, sardines, muxama (smoked tuna), figs, almonds, carob and Algarve wines, combining traditional recipes with contemporary interpretations. Among the examples are roasted fish with boiled potatoes and salad, marinated anchovies, octopus rice, marinated mackerel, fried octopus Algarve style, Ria Formosa oysters and desserts made with figs, almonds or carob.

The Municipality of Tavira states that the initiative aims to strengthen the link between the Mediterranean Diet Fair and the economic and gastronomic fabric of the municipality, highlighting the capacity of local establishments to interpret and promote this heritage. The municipality highlights that the Mediterranean Diet goes beyond the strictly food dimension, involving products, recipes, practices and traditions shared at the table, allowing residents and visitors to discover this food also outside the Fair venue.
