The CHEGA MP in the Assembly of the Republic, Francisco Gomes, harshly criticized the Regional and Republic Governments for not having a serious strategy for the fisheries sector in Madeira. During a visit to the Lota do Caniçal, the parliamentarian considered that the authorities have been ignoring the structural problems of the fishing activity in the region.
Francisco Gomes accused the governments of trying to respond to the discontent installed among fishermen and shipowners through sporadic support, which according to the MP does not solve the fundamental issues of the sector. The parliamentarian believes that these temporary measures mask the absence of a structured policy for Madeiran fishing.
During the visit to the Lota do Caniçal, Francisco Gomes was accompanied by members of the Regional Political Commission of CHEGA, reinforcing the party's position against what it considers to be the abandonment of the fisheries sector by the authorities. This criticism is part of a broader opposition by the party to the policies followed by both the Regional Government of Madeira and the Executive of the Republic.
