The daily all-cause mortality monitoring system, known as MoMo, estimated that 5,232 deaths attributable to high temperatures occurred in Spain since the beginning of the year, representing the highest figure since records began. Of this total, 2,147 deaths were recorded only during the month of August.
Heat deaths thus reached record highs, surpassing all previous estimates. The MoMo system, which monitors daily all-cause mortality, is responsible for these estimates based on collected data.
