Greater optimism from EDP and Galp contrasts with caution among remaining PSI listed companies

Jornal de Negócios31 August 2026 at 08:00

The companies listed on the Portuguese PSI-20 index show divergent trends in their results, with EDP and Galp showing optimism while the remaining listed companies adopt a more cautious stance. This divergence was visible in the results presented in the first half of the year and everything indicates that the trend will continue in the second half.

EDP and Galp were the only companies in the main national index to revise their guidance upwards, meaning they raised their performance forecasts for the remainder of the year. This optimism contrasts with the caution demonstrated by most other listed companies.

CTT (Portugal's Post Office) stood out in the opposite direction, having cut its estimates for operating profit. This downward revision of expectations contrasts with the optimism demonstrated by EDP and Galp, reinforcing the image of divergence among the companies in the index.

Overall, the landscape of Portuguese listed companies on the PSI-20 reflects an economic environment marked by uncertainty, where only some companies, such as EDP and Galp in the energy sectors, show confidence in their ability to overcome challenges, while the majority prefer to maintain a more conservative approach.

European Union suspends imports of Brazilian meat starting Thursday

The European Commission justifies the measure due to insufficient guarantees from Brazil regarding compliance with European standards against the abusive use of antibiotics in livestock. The spokesperson for the European Executive stated that Brazil is an important partner of the EU and that they are working constructively with Brazilian authorities to ensure compliance with the requirements, allowing the resumption of exports after such compliance is demonstrated. Brussels did not provide a timeline for the normalization of imports.
