Screen time in day care centers: which early childhood education schools in São Paulo prohibit

oglobo31 August 2026 at 07:30

The impacts of technology use in childhood have been increasingly discussed by specialists, especially when it comes to young children. Given the recommendations to reduce exposure to electronic devices, some parents may opt for a day care center that does not offer screens.

GLOBO's Day Care Guide is a tool that gathers around 300 early childhood education schools in the cities of Rio and São Paulo, with information such as tuition fees, schedules, location, infrastructure, and teaching methodology. Users can explore various school options that prevent the use of technology in early childhood education.

Psychologist and educator Ilan Brenman, author of the book "Childhood hijacked by screens: The challenge of raising children in the digital age" (Papirus), written in partnership with pediatrician Daniel Becker, states that the use of screens in early childhood causes children to miss crucial experiences for development.

According to Brenman, this use harms essential experiences for childhood growth, reinforcing specialists' concern about early exposure to technology and the importance of educational environments that prioritize alternatives to screen time.

The spokesperson for the European Executive stated that Brazil is an important partner of the EU and that they are working constructively with Brazilian authorities to ensure compliance with the requirements, allowing the resumption of exports after such compliance is demonstrated.
