The Municipal Civil Defense of Rio de Janeiro issued an alert for the entire city on Sunday night, after advancing winds indicated changes in weather conditions. At 9 PM, residents began receiving messages via SMS and WhatsApp, sent by the Rio Operations Center (COR-Rio), warning about the forecast of rain showers and strong wind gusts in the coming hours.
Before the official announcement even came out, intense gusts were already being felt in several neighborhoods throughout the city. Residents of Grajaú, in the North Zone, reported strong winds that lasted approximately 40 minutes, evidencing the change in weather.
COR-Rio recommends that the population remain in safe places, follow official warnings, and avoid unnecessary travel in areas prone to flooding during the alert period.
