Authorities in Chitwan district, Nepal, began on Saturday burying in temporary graves the bodies of flood victims that have yet to be identified. The measure was necessary due to lack of space in available burial sites.
Approximately 250 corpses remained awaiting identification, accumulating while authorities tried to cope with the high number of fatalities caused by the flooding.
Forensic teams are working in the field to determine the identity of the victims, in an effort to allow the bodies to be later claimed by families.
The temporary graves were opened as an emergency solution to accommodate the bodies that could not be identified in time, while identification procedures are underway.
