The state of Piauí registered one traffic death every two days between January and July 2026, according to data from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The data reveals that, despite the high rate, the state showed significant improvement during the period. Between January and July, Piauí registered a 20.44% drop in traffic deaths, representing a significant reduction in the number of fatal victims on the state's roads and urban streets. This decrease contrasts with the national trend, which recorded an increase in traffic mortality rates during the same period. The state of Piauí, therefore, managed to reverse the curve of traffic violence, even while maintaining a still concerning rate of fatal accidents.
