Search underway for a woman who went into the sea in Peñíscola and is missing

Firefighters from the Baix Maestrat park were mobilized to conduct search operations for a woman who went swimming on Peñíscola beach and is missing. The woman entered the sea more than an hour ago and has not left the water or been seen since. Emergency teams continue the search to locate the woman. The incident is taking place in the town of Peñíscola, in the province of Castellón.

Susana Cristeta, at 22 years old, suffered a serious accident at a water park in the Algarve in the mid-90s, when she was going down a slide and two people crashed into her, causing a spinal injury that left her tetraplegic with a prognosis of being in a wheelchair. Conscious throughout the incident, she was taken to Portimão Hospital and later transferred by helicopter to Lisbon, where she learned the extent of the injury. After treatments, physiotherapy, and surgery to reposition the displaced vertebrae, Susana refused to accept the prognosis and managed to walk again about three months later, in a recovery process she decided to share publicly.
