BE wants CGD to freeze mortgage credit increases and double the "Mortágua tax"

SAPO Notícias30 August 2026 at 18:34

The national coordinator of Left Bloc proposed today that Caixa Geral de Depósitos block increases in mortgage payments. This measure aims to protect borrowers from possible increases in their monthly payments.

BE also expressed the intention to double the so-called "Mortágua tax". The stated objective is to reinforce Social Security funding through this fiscal measure.

The proposal thus involves two fronts of action: one aimed at protecting housing credit consumers through public banking, and another aimed at increasing the financial resources available to the Social Security system.
