The secretary-general of PS, José Luís Carneiro, today accused the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, of whitewashing the chaos in the national exams for secondary education. According to the socialist leader, what Montenegro did represents "the biggest operation to whitewash what happened with the chaos in the exams this summer." The accusation arises in the context of the national exams and the preparation of students for access to higher education.
Carneiro also criticized the Prime Minister, saying that he is "afraid of the Portuguese people." The PS leader advised Montenegro to listen to what the country has to say, suggesting a lack of dialogue between the government and the population.
The socialist statesman reacted in this way to the Prime Minister's speech, at a time of political tension between PS and the PSD/CDS executive. The socialist opposition has been pointing criticism at the way the government handled the organization of the national exams.
