The meeting was considered fruitful by Bolsonaro, who praised the Central American country's security policy as a model to be followed.
Bolsonaro's son defended plans to build more prisons and toughen Brazilian criminal legislation. He criticized what he called loose legislation and announced the intention to create half a million prison spots. The goal would be to imprison criminals, such as cell phone thieves, with minimum sentences of 8 years in prison.
In the candidate's view, current Brazilian prisons are "crime schools" and need to become examples where prisoners remain for longer. Bolsonaro declared that in his government the legislation would change so that criminals pay for the crimes committed and don't leave prisons quickly.
