Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta became the K1 5,000 meters world champion in Poznan, Poland. The athlete thus achieved the world gold title in this long-distance event.
This result adds to the world championship title that Pimenta had already won on the previous Saturday, in the K1 1,000 meters event. With this double world titles, the Portuguese demonstrated great consistency in both distances.
