The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) decided to keep the yellow flag on electricity bills during the month of September. This decision represents the fifth consecutive month in which the additional tariff will be charged to Brazilian consumers.
With the maintenance of the yellow flag, an additional value of R$ 1.885 will be charged for every 100 kilowatt-hours consumed. This value is added to the regular electricity tariff paid by consumers.
The reason for the continuation of the yellow flag is related to the conditions of electricity generation in the country. According to Aneel, the factors that influence generation did not show significant improvements that would justify the removal of the additional charge.
The tariff flag system was created to indicate the cost conditions of electricity. The yellow flag represents an intermediate condition, where there is an increase in the tariff due to factors such as lower water availability in hydroelectric plants, which is Brazil's main energy source.
