Motorcyclist suffers open fracture in collision at Viveiros

A motorcyclist was seriously injured, this Sunday, following a collision involving a light vehicle and two motorcycles, in the area of the descent to Viveiros, in Funchal. The alert was given around 12 noon.

Following the impact, one of the motorcycles was thrown, coming to rest on the roadway. The respective driver suffered an open fracture.

The severity of the injury prompted the mobilization of the Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR). The victim was assisted at the scene by emergency services.

Susana Cristeta, at 22 years old, suffered a serious accident at a water park in the Algarve in the mid-90s, when she was going down a slide and two people crashed into her, causing a spinal injury that left her tetraplegic with a prognosis of being in a wheelchair. Conscious throughout the incident, she was taken to Portimão Hospital and later transferred by helicopter to Lisbon, where she learned the extent of the injury. After treatments, physiotherapy, and surgery to reposition the displaced vertebrae, Susana refused to accept the prognosis and managed to walk again about three months later, in a recovery process she decided to share publicly.
