The former commander of the Air Force, Carlos de Almeida Baptista Junior, denied, in a social media post, that he campaigned for the reelection of President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The military officer classified the accusation made by Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) as "frivolity."
The controversy began after Flavio Bolsonaro's interview with TV Globo, given to journalist César Tralli. On that occasion, the senator was questioned about the statements of Baptista Junior and General Marco Antônio Freire Gomes, former Army commander, regarding an alleged risk of a coup d'état and the presentation of a coup document at a meeting with Jair Bolsonaro.
In the interview, Flavio Bolsonaro responded that the statements against the former president came from someone who today asks for votes for Lula, classifying the brigadier as biased against Jair Bolsonaro.
Baptista Junior confirmed that there was an imminent risk of a coup and that there were pressures for military personnel to join these measures, reinforcing accusations that had already been made previously by military personnel about the Bolsonaro administration.
