Birds become nocturnal due to light pollution

SAPO Notícias30 August 2026 at 11:55

A new study found that birds around the world are singing, on average, almost an hour longer due to light pollution. Researchers analyzed millions of bird song recordings, covering more than 500 bird species that are active during the day. Exposure to artificial light at night causes these birds to extend their activities beyond their natural schedule, altering their circadian cycles and causing them to start singing earlier and continue for longer. This phenomenon represents a significant change in bird behavior patterns on a global scale.

NASA launches largest panoramic observatory to explore the universe aboard SpaceX rocket

NASA launched the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope, the largest panoramic observatory ever built, aboard a SpaceX rocket. The telescope aims to explore the universe and seek answers about dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics. Roman is now heading to an observation point located 1.6 million kilometres from Earth.

Intimate surgery: what leads women to seek reconstructive procedures

An increasing number of women have been seeking intimate reconstructive procedures to address issues such as pain, discomfort, scarring, and anatomical changes that affect daily activities, clothing, and sexual life. This movement occurs in a context of greater discussion about intimate health and greater access to information about one's own body. Data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) reveals that approximately 201,000 female external genital surgeries were performed worldwide in 2024, with almost half of the patients (48.4%) being between 18 and 34 years old, indicating that the demand is not restricted to older women or associated only with aging-related changes.

SpaceX launches NASA's telescope into space that will track dark energy and exoplanets

SpaceX successfully launched on Sunday the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, from NASA, worth $4.3 billion, from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The telescope, installed on top of the Falcon Heavy rocket, is now heading to an orbit about 1.6 million kilometers from Earth, where it will begin observing the sky in December. The mission, estimated to last five to ten years, was designed to study dark energy and dark matter, phenomena that permeate the cosmos but have never been directly detected. In addition, Roman will also help in the search for exoplanets and the study of how dark matter and dark energy shape distant stars and galaxies.
