Intimate surgery: what leads women to seek reconstructive procedures

oglobo30 August 2026 at 13:21

Women face various issues related to intimate anatomy that affect daily activities and quality of life. Pain, discomfort, scarring, and changes in the genital region can interfere with everything from physical exercise to wearing certain clothes and sexual life. These changes, which were previously little discussed, have led an increasing number of women to seek medical evaluation to find ways to regain comfort and function.

The movement toward seeking these procedures occurs in a scenario of greater discussion about intimate health and greater access to information about one's own body. Women have felt more comfortable questioning and seeking solutions for issues that were previously considered taboo or simply accepted as part of life.

Data from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) reveals that approximately 201,000 female external genital surgeries were performed worldwide in 2024. The patient profile shows that almost half, 48.4%, were between 18 and 34 years old, indicating that the demand is not restricted to older women or associated only with aging-related changes.
