The number of dead in Nepal and Tibet as a result of last week's catastrophic flooding reached 750 on Sunday. More than three thousand people are missing. The Red Cross estimates that more than 90 thousand people have been affected by the disaster.
Rescue teams have been moving to higher ground as rains raise river levels. Rescue operations have been suspended several times since Friday due to bad weather.
Authorities are also concerned about the possibility of new floods caused by the overflow of a lake formed on the border between Nepal and China. The lake formed after a mudslide caused by a glacial collapse on Wednesday, and has already begun to overflow into rivers in Nepal.
China attributed the tragedy to the effects of climate change. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, in a phone call with the Nepali foreign minister on Saturday, that the landslide was caused by a glacial collapse.
