Regulation for stateless citizens enters into force in September

The decree establishing the procedure for recognition of stateless status was approved and will enter into force in September. This regulation comes following a parliamentary debate that took place in the assembly.

The text was approved by a broad majority of the represented parties. CDS chose to abstain during the vote, while the Chega party was the only one to vote against the proposal.

The legislation aims to create a formal mechanism for stateless individuals to have their status officially recognized, thereby enabling access to fundamental rights currently denied to them.
