Recife: Gabriel Wickbold celebrates 20 years of career with "Imersão e Origem"

The Rio de Janeiro photographer Gabriel Wickbold, born in 1984, celebrates 20 years of career with the exhibition "Imersão e Origem – 20 Anos, Ato I". The event features an opening cocktail on September 8th, at 7pm, at the Museu do Estado de Pernambuco (MEPE), located at Avenida Rui Barbosa, 960, in the Graças neighborhood, in Recife.

Wickbold started his career in 2006 and, after passing through poetry and music, consolidated a trajectory in photography marked by six authorial series. His exhibitions have already been presented in cities such as São Paulo, New York, Stockholm, Lisbon, London and Miami.

More than 15 of his works are currently part of permanent collections of museums such as Erarta, in Saint Petersburg, and the Museu de Arte Brasileira da FAAP (MAB), in São Paulo. In 2020, he became the youngest artist to present a solo exhibition at MAB and was distinguished by GQ magazine as one of the "Men of the Year".

The project in Recife has sponsorship from Vellas-VCapital – Multi-Family Office and RFM, in addition to the support of Galeria Maurício Redig, Iquine, Rio Sol, the Sociedade dos Amigos do Museu do Estado de Pernambuco, MEPE itself, Fundarpe, and the Secretaria de Cultura do Governo de Pernambuco.

O fotógrafo carioca Gabriel Wickbold, nascido em 1984 e com carreira iniciada em 2006, apresenta “Imersão e Origem – 20 Anos, Ato I”, com coquetel de abertura, no dia 8 de setembro, às 19h, no Museu do Estado de Pernambuco (MEPE), na Avenida Rui Barbosa, 960, no bairro das Graças, no Recife.

Depois de passar pela poesia e pela música, Wickbold consolidou um percurso na fotografia marcado por seis séries autorais e exposições em cidades como São Paulo, Nova Iorque, Estocolmo, Lisboa, Londres e Miami. 

Mais de 15 das suas obras integram atualmente coleções permanentes de museus como o Erarta, em São Petersburgo, e o Museu de Arte Brasileira da FAAP (MAB), em São Paulo. Em 2020, tornou-se o artista mais jovem a apresentar uma exposição individual no MAB e foi distinguido pela revista GQ como um dos “Men of the Year”.
