The Portuguese Skin Cancer Association (APCC) launched the Skin and Sun 2026 Campaign, with the tagline "Sun myths? Don't take the risk!". This campaign aims to raise awareness among the population about the risks associated with sun exposure and deconstruct misconceptions about skin protection.

The campaign highlights that skin cancer can affect all skin tones, debunking the belief that only fair-skinned individuals are at risk. The text addresses the relationship between melanin and natural protection against ultraviolet radiation.

According to the information provided, although melanin offers some natural protection against UV radiation, it does not make anyone completely immune to developing skin cancer. Therefore, regardless of skin tone, everyone should adopt appropriate sun protection measures.

The campaign also warns that although the risk of skin cancer is generally lower in darker skin, diagnosis in these cases may occur later, which can compromise timely treatment of the disease.
