Aileen Wuornos was an American woman who became known as the "Serial Killer Prostitute." Between 1989 and 1990, she killed seven men along the main highways of the state of Florida, in the United States.
Wuornos worked as a sex worker and claimed that all the men she killed had attempted to rape her during their encounters. Her defense was based on this self-defense claim.
She was sentenced to death in 1992 for the murder of the seven men. After the sentence, she spent a decade on death row while her appeals were being reviewed.
Wuornos was ultimately executed by lethal injection, becoming one of the most publicized executions in the United States.
