Discovery of cocaine in steaks helped dismantle prison trafficking network

The discovery of cocaine hidden in steaks allowed authorities to dismantle a drug trafficking network in Portuguese prisons. Prison guards found the drug in April 2025 during a routine search.

The drug was intended for the leader of the trafficking network, who was detained in Guarda prison. The fact that the substance was specifically directed to this individual suggests an organized supply scheme within the prison.

The case involved 24 defendants in total, indicating an operation of significant dimensions with multiple participants involved in the trafficking network. The investigation had been ongoing for some time until the discovery that allowed the dismantling of the organization.
