Paulo Portas, former CDS leader, participated in the PSD Summer University, where he defended that it is necessary to discuss the aging of the Portuguese population. The politician highlighted that there are already enough studies identifying this as a structural problem of the country.
In his speech, Portas warned of the need to act, but without falling into radicalism. He argued that the discussion about aging must be done in a measured way and aware of the implications that different measures can have.
Portas' intervention comes in the context of an event organized by the PSD, the party that hosted the former centrist leader as a speaker. This participation reinforces the proximity between the CDS and the PSD in the Portuguese political spectrum, particularly on structural issues of the country.
