Justice of DF schedules conciliation hearing between federal government and Discord

The Federal Justice of the Federal District scheduled a conciliation hearing between the federal government and the Discord platform for next Wednesday. The process was filed by the Lula administration, which requests the condemnation of the company to pay a fine of R$ 500 million for collective moral damages and compliance of the platform with Brazilian legislation.

According to the judicial decision, representatives of the Union, Discord, and the Federal Public Ministry will participate in the hearing, all with sufficient knowledge of the facts and with powers for negotiation. A representative of the National Data Protection Agency may also participate to provide information and clarifications on the measures adopted in the case.

This action against Discord occurs after the blocking of the platform in Brazil and a record fine applied to TikTok by the ANPD. The agency promises to expand its offensive against social networks that do not comply with the country's data protection legislation.

According to the ANPD, TikTok collected data from minors to personalize content and monetize with advertisements, which motivated the application of the record fine to the platform.
