Storms cause three deaths and roof damage in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina

The storms hitting the Southern Region of Brazil caused three deaths and roof damage to homes in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. In the gaucho territory, two people lost their lives. In Porto Alegre, a child died after a tree fell on a house during a storm on Friday. In the early hours of Saturday, rescue teams found the body of a vehicle passenger swept away by the current in Arroio Grande.

In Santa Catarina, a 39-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning on Friday afternoon. The victim was on the sand of Praia da Pinheira, in Palhoça, a municipality in the Greater Florianópolis region. She received care from the Fire Department and was taken to a hospital, but the State Health Department confirmed her death on Saturday morning.

In Rio Grande do Sul, the State Civil Defense bulletin counts 21 municipalities affected by the storms, which included hail and strong winds. In addition to the deaths, the storms caused roof damage to several homes in gaucho and catarinense municipalities during the early hours of Saturday.
