Pope Leo XIV sent economic aid to Caritas Nepal to respond to the catastrophe that hit the country. The Vatican had previously already sent messages of condolences for the victims of the disaster.

The latest known toll points to 683 dead and around three thousand missing. Among the missing are more than 500 foreigners.

Among the missing foreigners are three Portuguese citizens, who were identified among the victims of the catastrophe in Nepal.
