The body of Army Colonel Álvaro Roberto Cruz Ferreira Lima was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) on Saturday for autopsy, after dying in a hang glider crash at São Conrado Beach, in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone. The accident occurred on Friday afternoon, when the military officer fell into the sea and was pulled from the water by firefighters in cardiac arrest.
After receiving first aid on the sand, the colonel was rushed in serious condition and transferred to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, in Gávea. According to the hospital's administration, despite all efforts by the medical team, he did not survive his injuries.
The case was registered at the 14th Police District, in Leblon, and further investigations are underway to clarify the complete circumstances of the accident. The president of the São Conrado Free Flight Club, José Carlos Srour, was mentioned in this regard, but the information about his statement was cut off in the article.
